Hippity, hoppity, Easter's on its way!

Easter is celebrated by Christians all over the world, and this year, it falls on Sunday, 17 April 2022. Why is this special day celebrated? In the bible, this day is to remember the crucifixion and to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

As Malaysia is made of many different races, religions and cultures, it’s always great to know about each other’s customs and traditions to bring everyone closer together. And… it’s the only time when people ask how I like my eggs? Chocolate! (Usually scrambled)

Why eggs?

In olden history, people gifted each other with eggs at spring festival to celebrate the new season. Eggs also symbolises new life and rebirth, and over the years, it has become a custom for Easter.

Do Christians also fast during this time?

Yes they do! Christians do fast for 40 days before Easter, and it is called Lent. This tradition still continues to be practised among some Churches, especially the Eastern Churches.

Why Chocolate eggs?

Over the years, the celebration of eating eggs has turned into a sweet treat. It all started with the first English chocolate egg by Fry in 1873 and it was Cadbury that made it popular by introducing their own chocolate eggs in 1875. Now, the chocolate eggs are even more decorated and innovative with fancy frills and trills that even luxury brands produce them.
